PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

"Stay coachable, seek feedback, and teach others is the pathway to develop professionally."

Differentiated Instruction

Students succeed academically in a differentiated classroom when teachers effectively teach students of varying skill levels, readiness and interest.  This professional development will provide teachers with the training to intentionally plan lessons, prepare learning materials and maximize teaching and learning in the classroom based on students’ differences and styles of learning.

Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum

The 21st Century proves that every teacher is a reading and writing teacher.  Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum allows for teachers to engage students in reading and writing during science, social students and math courses.  The principles and practices of Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum deepens student content knowledge which ultimately increases assessment scores that require students to apply their learning.  This course will provide the principles and practices for all content area teachers.

Project-Based Learning (PBL)

Our workshop participants will learn how Project-Based Learning (PBL) provides opportunities for students to think deeply, learn traditional academic content and understand how it applies to the real world.  PBL helps student meet standards and do well on test which requires students to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and critical thinking skills.  PBL is a great way to connect with parents and the community!

Guiding Principles for Rigorous Instruction

Rigorous Instruction helps students understand how to live life using brainpower as their engine.  It will insist they defend a position or adjust it to reflect new information, and it will often move students outside of their comfort zone.  Rigorous Instruction will also prepare them to solve problems they will face in the future.  This workshop will outline what rigor looks, feels and sounds like for both teacher and students.

Teaching:  Targets, Objectives, Standards

How are the educational terms:  targets, objectives, and standards aligned?  Teachers will learn how to intentionally plan lessons to address what scholars are expected to learn for mastery by unpacking the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  This powerful workshop will build a common language throughout the school for students and teachers alike.  Teacher will walk away feeling empowered to teach the CCSS and implement learning goals and outcomes for scholars.
